Merry Christmas

I hope you are having as good a day that I am, no matter where you are! Beautiful warm day here on the east coast of Australia... beach and a swim tomorrow!

On the DFW front, apparently Chaffey Review copies are arriving, so keep an eye on that mailbox.

Now for the big news. It looks like "The Planet Trillaphon as It Stands in Relation to the Bad Thing", DFW's earliest published short piece, will appear in the Summer issue of Tin House. This is a wonderful opportunity for readers to experience this great piece without having to travel to Amherst.

Did anyone else notice the typos on the first page of the Chaffey story?

I don't have my copy with me, but "its" is spelled "it's" and there's one other obvious mistake I can't recall.

It seems strange to me since the text in Harper's "The Compliance Branch" is correct.

Happy New Year! I just finished reading Infinite Jest last night. I had never read anything by DFW before but had vaguely heard of him and had bought a first edition paperback of IJ at a school used-book sale a couple years go. After reading the NYT obit I started it and was obsessed from the get-go by the startling language and the virtual but very real world in the novel. I read Saltzman's thesis on this site, which pointed out some theoretical constructs corresponding to why I think the book is so important. I hope there will be more discussion on this site.
